30 years of Star Wars
To mark the 30th anniversary of Star Wars in 2007, LEGO released 10,000 chrome-plated gold C-3PO minifigures, randomly inserted into Star Wars sets. Unlike later pearl-gold variants, this figure uses a true vacuum-metallized chrome finish that cannot be reproduced cleanly.
Spotting a fake
Authentic chromes show a slight rainbow microsheen at oblique angles and a soft seam line under the chest plate. Painted reproductions appear flatter and chip easily at the joints.
